Shabbat & Holidays

Shabbat at Hillel is the highlight of the week at UCLA. It is our opportunity to come together as a Jewish Bruin community to rest, reflect, and connect with each other. Almost every Friday night during the school year, students, staff and community members join us at Hillel for Shabbat services and dinner. a Kosher Shabbat meal is provided for students (for free)!

On a typical Friday night at Hillel, students can participate in one of two Shabbat services. The Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (JLIC) gathers for Orthodox Shabbat services at sunset. Students wishing to participate in an egalitarian and musical service can join Bruins B'Yachad, which meets at 6:00pm on Fridays when there is Shabbat at Hillel.

Shabbat dinner is no charge for students, and we serve outstanding gourmet kosher food. Please remember to RSVP for Shabbat dinner so we do not waste any food.

For the Shabbat schedule, visit the Hillel calendar.

Orthodox services meet weekly at 9:15 am and is followed by a festive Shabbat lunch. JLIC also meets for mincha, seudah shlishit  (the 3rd Shabbat meal) and Havdallah at the conclusion of Shabbat.

Shabbat is always a special experience. Throughout the school year, there are opportunities to have an extra-special Shabbat experience at Hillel.
