Every quarter, Hillel at UCLA hosts over 60 student-run programs.  Please visit our 
Events Calendar to see what is happening at any given time.

Hillel at UCLA prides itself on bringing a host of nationally recognized speakers, educators, entertainers, and newsmakers to the UCLA campus each year. We also bring a range of opportunities to our students. 

In addition to our regular programs, Hillel at UCLA also offers a number of special programs every quarter.

Speaking at the fifth annual Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture in Journalism and International Relations. Saturday, May 12th, 7:00pm. 

 

 


 

Yuval Ron Ensemble - At the Crossroads: Music & Culture of the Middle East
May 20th, 2007, 01:00 PM - 03:00 PM.  The Yuval Ron Ensemble—featuring Arab vocalist Najwa Gibran, Whirling Dervish Aziz, Armenian Duduk master Yegish Manukian—includes Arab and Jewish artists who come together to celebrate the musical traditions of Judaism, Sufism, and the Christian Armenian Church. Composer and world-music producer Yuval Ron orchestrates the deep inter-cultural connection between these three traditions and the musical influences they share. The concert will feature songs of Sufi origin from Turkey, Jewish prayers from Morocco, Yemen, and Israel, as well as Armenian church chants. With the presence of Whirling Dervish Aziz, this program will be a feast for the senses!

Speaking on "Apocalypse Now? The Korach Rebellion" on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 at 7:30pm at Hillel. 

 

 


 

Judaism & the Creative Life
Join us for the first in our series and hear from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, David Mamet, and noted actress and singer/composer, Rebecca Pidgeon, as they discuss the role that Judaism plays in their lives.  Tuesday, March 20th, 2007 at 7:30pm at Hillel. 






Ory Shihor
- Winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, prize winner of the 9th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition who recently performed at the Kennedy Center and the Phillips Collection in Washington , D.C. will be performing live and in concert at a Hillel VIP reception on November 1st.

 

 



"Post Military Trip" by Shruti Bhadwaj, the story of young Israelis who go off to India to come to grips with their experiences in the Israeli army. Screening: January 11th, 2007 at 6:45pm at Hillel's 3rd floor Spiegel Auditorium followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Shruti Bhardwaj and a reception. Guests are invited to stay for a "Trance Dance" party following the event at 9pm.


 

Jason Alexander
On Friday. February 3rd , 2006, join Hillel for Shabbat with special guest Jason Alexander! Spaces are limited, so be sure to RSVP! The Jewish Greek Council is also hosting a dinner this evening so if you are in a fraternity or sorority make sure to sign up for the Greek Shabbat when you RSVP.





 

The Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture Series featuring Larry King
Larry King, host of CNN's Larry King Live will be speaking at Hillel at the Fourth Annual Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture Series on March 2nd ,2006 at 7:30pm.

 "An Evening with Madame F"    Yom Hashoah - Tuesday, April 25th, 2006 at 7pm

Hillel at UCLA is proud to present "An Evening with Madame F" on Yom Hashoah - Holocaust Rememberance Day. One of the most honored Holocaust-related performances, "An Evening with Madame F" was produced for television broadcast by PBS affiliates WCVE and WHTJ.
Pianist, singer and actor Claudia Stevens will be performing the musical drama that she created to mark Yom Hashoah and to commemorate all those who perished in the Holocaust.

The Yom Hashoah Memorial Program has been endowed by Maria and William (z”l) Herskovic. William, who founded Bel Air Camera in Westwood escaped Auschwitz during WW II and is credited with fueling early efforts of the Belgian resistance and saving hundreds of lives. He was a true hero of the Jewish people.

Sponsors include: Hillel at UCLA, UCLA Jewish Student Union, The Dortort Center for Creativity in the Arts, UCLA Center for Jewish Studies, Anti-Defamation League, Armenian Students Association, Darfur Action Committee, and the Undergraduate Students Association Council. People of the Book Festival - A Jewish Literary Celebration
Sunday, April 30th, 2006 - 10am-8pm, HilleL at UCLA

Join us for a day-long celebration of Jewish books and authors, food, family and guest speakers.

 


 

Yom Ha'atzmaut - Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006
Every year, Hillel organizes a huge celebration for Israel's Independence Day. Students partake in a number of events and activities to highlight the importance of Israel in our lives.

“The Italian Jewish Kitchen: A Gastronomic and Historical Tour” - Sunday, May 7th, 2006
Hillel at UCLA
Join us as we explore the roots and flavors of the Italian Jewish Kitchen, featuring a lecture by Luigi Ballerini (UCLA professor and expert on the history of Italian cuisine)as well as a cooking demo & tasting with Gino Angelini (Master Chef, Angelini Osteria)
