Leadership Recognition Forum 2009

In response to the increase in number of student leaders in Jewish life at UCLA, Hillel at UCLA is introducing an annual Leadership Recognition Forum.  In addition to acknowledging all leaders and graduating seniors, we will be offering 4 student-nominated awards in our focus areas of Immersive Experiences, Leadership, Jewish Learning, and Mentorship, along with two staff-selected awards: Emerging Student Award and a Graduating Leader Award. The awardees will each receive a $180 check along with a book that is specifically selected for them. It will take place on Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 by invitation only. Awardees announced at evening reception.

Student Leadership, Internships & Job Opportunities: 2009-2010

We are very excited to launch our new leadership intern program at Hillel at UCLA. For the past few years, the interest in and participation of students in leadership positions has increased dramatically. At the same time, we have found that students gain tremendously from training programs. As an established organization on campus, Hillel at UCLA, is proud to offer 9 additional internships this coming year as well as over 18 leadership positions. While the student board will not continue as an elected group of students, the 4 Peer Mentor Interns will serve in its place to provide oversight to the richness of opportunities we offer to students on campus. We know that it takes experience and practice to learn how to be an effective leader and are introducing a tiered-approach. All students, especially first and second-year students will have access to leadership positions that are very focused so that students can involve their peers in areas they are passionate about. In their upperclassman years and after having had leadership experience, students can either continue their work in a specific project/area or choose to apply for an internship where they will receive additional training both professionally and in the realm of Jewish learning.
