1/13 Dortort Center for the Arts Presents a
TRIPLE ART OPENING & BOOK EVENT
7:00-9:00pm ~ Hillel at UCLA
The Dortort Center for Creativity in the Arts at UCLA Hillel
will open three new exhibits and host a book signing event.
ART OPENINGS: 
"Jews in Cuba" by Debbi Rosenfeld
Large documentary photo exhibit which examines the
complex lives of Jews in Cuba. In conjunction with the opening
of the exhibit Rabbi Jerry Cutler of Creative Arts Temple
will speak at 8pm in the Spiegel Auditorium about his recent
highly-informative fact-finding mission to Cuba.
"Student Fine Art Show" curated by Claire Kohne
Students from the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture
will be presenting their cutting-edge art at an exciting opening
at Gindi Hall.

"Discovering Hope: Faces of the Holocaust" by Eli Rubel
Brilliant, twenty-three-year-old photographer Eli Rubel explores,
in his compelling study of faces of survivors, the emotional toll
of their experiences in the Holocaust.
BOOK EVENT (7pm in the Coffee Bean):
"Bending Toward The Sun" by Leslie Gilbert-Lurie
A miraculous lesson in courage and recovery,
Bending Toward the Sun tells the story of a unique bond
forged in the wake of brutal terror during the Holocaust.
Author Leslie Gilbert-Lurie and her mother, Rita Lurie,
bring together the stories of three generations of women -
mother, daughter, and granddaughter - to understand the
legacy that unites, inspires, and haunts them all.

A Staged Reading of "GOLIATH"
8:00pm ~ DeNeve Auditorium at UCLA
A staged reading presented in conjunction with the UCLA School
of Theater: "GOLIATH" by Karen Hartman starring Emmy-
and Ovation-award-winning actress Jane Kaczmarek, and
directed by Marya Mazor. This award-winning play deals brilliantly
and fairly with the Arab-Israeli conflict and the subject of
Jewish settlements in occupied territories.

11/16 The Dortort Center Presents:
A Musical Performance by Grammy Nominated Artist JJ Keki
8:00pm ~ Hillel at UCLA ~ Coffee Bean Lounge
Ugandan Jewish Artist JJ Keki is a leader of the 1000-
member Abayudaya Jewish community of Uganda.
He has been acclaimed in Oprah Magazine for his
leadership of the "Delicious Peace" interfaith
Fair Trade coffee cooperative, and has also been
nominated for a Grammy in world music. Mr. Keki will
give a multimedia presentation about the economic
development programs that are supported by Kulanu,
(All of Us), a non-profit organization which supports
isolated and emerging Jewish communities around
the world. He will also perform traditional Abayudaya music.
This program is co-sponsored by the UCLA Fowler Museum,
the UCLA Center for Jewish Studies, the UCLA Herp Albert School of Music,
The UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures, and
the UCLA School of Art and Architecture along with student groups
Bruins for Israel and Challah for Hunger.
