Dear Friends,

One of the greatest Jewish values is gratitude. When we were kids, we were taught the importance of saying “thank you”. We have done the same with our kids, and they will do the same with theirs.

On Wednesday evening, May 5, 2010, we will all gather to say “Thank you!” to two people who, over the past 36 years, have made an enormous difference to our community: Rabbi Chaim Seidler-Feller, Executive Director of Hillel at UCLA, and his wonderful wife, Dr. Doreen Seidler-Feller. Please take this opportunity to impact Hillel with a gift in honor of this special occasion.

Honoring Chaim and Doreen has special meaning for the four of us. Janice met her husband while folk dancing at Hillel when she was a student at UCLA. Laurie was married by Chaim, and he officiated at the bris and namings of all of her children. Sara has worked side by side with Chaim and Doreen on dozens of programs and holiday events. And David always has a clever anecdote to tell about Chaim in his regular column in the Jewish Journal, including a recent tale involving a demonstration in Jerusalem, a spirited debate, and an Oreo cookie!

Now we are reaching out to you, our friends, to hear your stories and to ask for your help to say thank you. Specifically, we are asking for a story and for a gift.

First, the story. Are you one of the thousands of UCLA alumni who have shared Shabbat, Israeli folk dancing, and other memorable moments with us? Are you a community member who has spent your High Holidays with us, or attended a lecture by one of the many prestigious speakers who have come to UCLA? Perhaps you’re one of several hundred people who have had the opportunity to receive Rabbi Chaim’s Rabbinic counsel?

We ask that you share your stories about the lasting effects Hillel and the Seidler-Fellers have had on each and every one of us, which will be added to our Tribute Journal.

Now, the gift. We invite you to join us at the Annual Dinner by purchasing a ticket or becoming a table sponsor. If you cannot attend, we invite you to send us a donation to help us continue doing the important work that we do—providing educational and social programs to students that will help build the next generation of Jewish leadership.

We are also thrilled to announce this year our first annual “Honorable Menschen” Award, which will recognize the outstanding contributions of Phylliss and Louis Mann, who met in 1947 at the very first Hillel located in Champagne, Illinois. They have been true friends of our organization for well over a decade.

On behalf of everyone in the Hillel family, and especially Chaim and Doreen and the thousands of students whose lives they have touched over the past 36 years, we thank you for your continued support.

Please follow the link below to learn how you can tell your story and make your gift today.
