After a 20+ year hiatus, Mike is thrilled to be back in his hometown as our new Assistant Director.
Mike studied International Relations at UC Davis where he was very active in Jewish life and was the goalie for the ice hockey team. After graduating, he did marketing for the San Francisco Giants (we’ll try not to hold that against him) and then became Director of Merchandise for the Fresno Grizzlies. A few years later, a “b’shert” encounter led him to be recommended as the Program Director for Hillel at Davis and Sacramento, launching his career as a Jewish communal professional. Soon Mike became the Young Adult Coordinator of Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco, overseeing one of the most successful young Jewish programs, including the popular Late Shabbat. While in San Francisco, Michael received his Masters of Nonprofit Administration from USF. Prior to coming to UCLA, Mike was Hillel at Stanford’s Assistant Director of Community Development, overseeing the development campaign, High Holidays, and other major projects.
Mike “loves being Jewish” a love that was instilled in him from his days as a camper and counselor at camps Shalom, Swig, and Newman. He also loves movies, comedy, hockey, softball, and walking around the neighborhood. Mike looks forward to working with our Bruins and especially being able to go to the beach without wearing a sweater.
