KAHAL: Your Jewish Home Abroad
What: Are you a Jewish student studying abroad or planning on studying abroad? KAHAL is an organization that helps connect Jewish students abroad with different Jewish communities and opportunities. Whether you want to attend a Shabbat dinner or spend Passover with a host family, KAHAL will connect you with an expansive network of Jews all around the world. KAHAL even gives grants up to $250 for travel fees or a stay in an AirBnB to help you attend Jewish events or visit Jewish communities.

Hebrew University Global Development and Social Justice

What: See the world from a new perspective with our program in International Development and Social Justice. IsraAID Humanitarian Fellowship
When: Summer 2019
What: For 18 years, IsraAID has been assisting people all over the world overcome extreme crises and has provided millions with the vital support needed to move from destruction to reconstruction, and eventually, to sustainable living. The IsraAID Humanitarian Fellowship program offers an opportunity to learn first-hand about humanitarian aid and disaster response, while making a real contribution to populations recovering from humanitarian crises and develop professionally in the field.
The 3rd Fellowship commences with practical and professional preparation towards a 2-month summer immersive field work opportunity in one of IsraAID’s ongoing international field projects. Fellows would have the opportunity to be involved in one of our ongoing programs that range from supporting Syrian refugees, helping victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and Dominica or taking part in one of our longer-term projects in Kenya or the Philippines. All applicants must be available for deployment from early June to Late August 2019, and be committed for the full academic year of engagement starting March 1, 2019. In addition, a mandatory weekend seminar will be held the weekend of June 1, 2019.

Nazarian Center: Translation as a Bridge?

What: How do the Hebrew translation and reception of literary works by Jewish-American writers, and the English translation of works by Israeli authors, reflect competing Jewish identities in Israel and the US? This talk by new Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies Postdoctoral Fellow Omri Asscher will explore the ideological appropriation involved in translation and interpretation in both directions, and shed light on the different ways in which each Jewish cultural center has responded to the challenge - and potential inspiration - represented by the other.
