SERVICE OFFERINGS


Return to Tradition! Come prepared to enjoy familiar nigguns (tunes) anchored in a spiritually uplifting, traditional service facilitated by Rabbi Aaron Lerner along-side singing sisters, Yael and Ronit Aranoff. Immerse yourself in Jewish text study and opportunities for reflection. Follow along in the Lev Shalem Machzor (prayer book), most widely used in Conservative congregations, which is primarily written in Hebrew, with English and transliteration interspersed.

RABBI AARON LERNER, Hillel’s Executive Director, focuses oncommunity-building and integrating Jewish wisdom into modern life. Rabbi Aaron offers fresh and thought-provoking sermons and commentaries, encouraging reflection while infusing a humor and lightheartedness. Rabbi Aaron is well-known in the national arena for his accomplishments in higher education and advocacy. Prior to entering the world of education, Rabbi Aaron worked for more than a decade in commercial real estate finance after graduating from USC’s Marshall School of Business. He and his wife, Dr. Rachel Lerner, are blessed with three daughters, Lily, Gavriella and Ziva.

 

 

 

 

  YAEL AND RONIT ARANOFF, highly-acclaimed performers and artistic creators return for their ninth season of High Holy Days at Hillel at UCLA, following in the tradition of their mother and aunt who cantored at UCLA Hillel for 25 years! Together, the Aranoff Sisters create a musical dynamism that inspires a next level of High Holy Day introspection and spiritual connection — an experience not to be missed.







 

 


A highly interactive, musical, and spiritual service will feature instruments and use technology. Accessible prayer style with progressive text in both Hebrew (transliteration provided) and English.

IRA ROSENBERG, a 5th year Rabbinic Candidate at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) returns by popular demand to lead High Holy Days. Ira currently serves as Rabbi for BASE Westwood, a home hospitality program that invites students to engage Jewishly in his home with his wife Arielle, their son Lev, and dog Yofi. Previously, Ira served as Rabbinic Intern for USC Hillel and as student rabbi for Congregation B’nei David in Visalia, CA where he led High Holy Day services and served both communities as their spiritual leader. Ira creates a joyful and interactive prayer space that is highly musical and uplifts the soul — a nurturing home base for the Holy Days.

 

 

 

 

 

 


An inviting opportunity to enjoy the traditional holiday prayers, following the Hebrew text of the Machzor (prayer book). The Tefilah (prayer) will be enriched by frontal teachings, providing a meaningful High Holy Day Kol Nidre experience.

RABBI ARYEH KAPLAN & SHARONA KAPLAN, MSW are serving in their fifteenth year representing the Orthodox Union Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (OU-JLIC) at Hillel at UCLA. OU-JLIC is a national partnership between Hillel and the Orthodox Union that places an Orthodox, Rabbinic couple on select campuses to serve as Torah Educators and mentors for Jewish students. Bringing with them expansive experience in Jewish education, programming, community building and engagement, the Kaplans’ warmth and passion inspire students and community members alike.

PARKING

 

Nearest parking is UCLA’s Parking Lot 2 at the corner of Hilgard and Westholme, just south of Hillel on the opposite side of the street.

$12/day or $8/day for handicap placards. Please click here for more parking information.

Please note that there is no parking available at Hillel however the City of Los Angeles has relaxed parking on surrounding neighborhood streets during the High Holy Days ONLY.

(No parking on Strathmore Drive or 600 block of Westholme)
